There will be no third straight Cy Young Award for Jacob deGrom…but will New York have a reigning Cy in town come next Opening Day?

Trevor Bauer, who spent last season in Cincinnati, was named the NL’s Cy Young Award winner, becoming the Reds’ first-ever Cy by receiving 27 of the 30 first-place votes and three second-place votes. His 201 points was 78 ahead of Chicago’s Yu Darvish, and Jacob deGrom, the Mets’ two-time defending Cy, finished third, earning three second-place, 23 third-place, and four fourth-place votes to be the only pitcher other than Bauer to be named on all 30 ballots.

Ex-Met Zack Wheeler finished 12th, earning one fifth-place vote from USA Today’s John Perrotto.

In the American League, Cleveland’s Shane Bieber was a unanimous winner, earning all 30 first-place votes. Yankees ace Gerrit Cole finished fourth behind Bieber, Minnesota’s Kenta Maeda, and Toronto’s Hyun-Jin Ryu, earning 50 points to fall just one shy of a Top 3 finish (Ryu had 51).

Cole received 22 total votes out of 30 ballots, earning two second-place, six third-place, 10 fourth-place, and four fifth-place votes to be the only Yankee on the list.

And, for those always curious as to whom New York’s media voted for:

In the NL, Tim Britton of The Athletic had the top three in order with San Diego’s Dinelson Lamet fourth and Chicago’s Kyle Hendricks fifth, while Mike Puma of the New York Post had Bauer, deGrom, Darvish, Lamet, and Atlanta’s Max Fried.

In the AL, Newsday’s Erik Boland did not have Cole on his ballot (going Maeda-Ryu-Lucas Giolito-Dallas Keuchel behind Bieber) while retiring New York Post scribe George A. King III had Keuchel, Cole, Maeda, and Oakland’s Chris Bassitt rounding out his ballot.
