Ambry Thomas might not be done at Michigan, after all.

Although he declared for the NFL Draft last month, Thomas said he's pondering a return to Michigan now that the Big Ten is starting play in October. The senior cornerback would be a big boost for the Wolverines.

“I honestly don’t know how all that will work, knowing I signed with an agent already," Thomas said in an interview Thursday with Jon Jansen and Anthony Herron on Big Ten Radio. "I’m hearing certain things that I can come back, I’m hearing other things that I can’t. Whole bunch of uncertainty still from my end. And right now, answers would clear everything up for me.”

Thomas opted for the NFL when the Big Ten postponed the football season in August due to COVID-19. He also hired an agent, but Michigan could appeal for his reinstatement. Thomas said he hasn't yet discussed the situation with Jim Harbaugh, but he's had dialogue with a couple of Michigan's assistant coaches.

“They said that they’d get at me later. They want to talk, see what I’m thinking," Thomas said. "Basically, the conversation we’re having, I’m going to express some of my concerns still and see how that would go about knowing I’ve already signed with an agent."

Thomas, a product of Detroit King, started all 13 games for the Wolverines last season and tied for the team lead with three interceptions. He's also returned kicks in the past, highlighted by a 99-yard touchdown against Notre Dame in 2018. A return to Michigan would allow Thomas to show his leadership skills as a senior -- and potentially boost his draft stock.

"My teammates, the people I’ve been around, they know," he said. "I just want to show everybody I’m a leader and I bring that energy you can feed off of. I give that to the younger players or older players, it doesn’t matter. I bring that to the table.

"And if there is a season, and if I do consider coming back to Michigan football, I’m pretty sure we’re going to be ready.”
