'Shoelace' is retracing his steps, all the way back to Ann Arbor.
Former Michigan quarterback Denard Robinson is rejoining the program as assistant director of player personnel, according to a report Wednesday from On3 Sports.
He's the latest former Wolverine Jim Harbaugh has added to his staff, joining defensive line coach Mike Elston and tight ends coach Grant Newsome this year and running backs coach Mike Hart, wide receivers coach Ron Bellamy and defensive analyst Doug Mallory last year.
Robinson comes to Michigan from the Jacksonville Jaguars, where he spent last season in the front office under now-departed head coach Urban Meyer and the season before as an offensive quality control coach. He also worked as an offensive analyst for Jacksonville University in 2019.
Robinson's background makes him a natural candidate to work alongside co-offensive coordinators Sherrone Moore and Matt Weiss in the wake of former OC Josh Gattis' departure for the University of Miami.
The 31-year-old will also work in tandem with newly-hired director of player personnel Tom Gamble, who likewise came to Michigan from the Jaguars where he spent last season as a senior personnel executive.
Robinson figures to have a hand in recruiting, too. After all, he's a good sell. He set several records at Michigan during an electric career that saw him win Big Ten Player of the Year in 2010, several of which still stand today. He's also the last player to grace the cover of the EA Sports NCAA Football video game before it was discontinued.
A fifth-round pick of the Jaguars in 2013, Robinson spent four seasons with the team as a running back but never quite made it in the NFL. He last played for the Atlanta Legends of the now-defunct Alliance of American Football in 2019.
Now his back where it all began.
