ANN ARBOR – A day after Michigan State took center stage on one of the craziest weekends of college basketball of the season – for all the wrong reasons, mind you – it was Michigan’s turn.
With the Wolverine’s NCAA Tournament hopes hanging in the balance, Wisconsin found itself in the same places as MSU did on Sunday: up three points in the waning moments of the game. And like the Spartans, the Badgers elected not to foul.
They, too, paid the price, thanks to a circus shot by Hunter Dickinson.
Dickinson’s three-point heave sent the game to overtime, where the Wolverines would go on to win 87-79 to improve to 17-12 on the year and add another Quad 2 win to their bubble résumé.
Michigan entered the day in ESPN bracketologist Joe Lunardi's "Next 4 Out" and CBS's Jerry Palm's "First Four Out."
The Wolverines now sit in a four-way tie for second-place in a crowded Big Ten with Maryland, Northwestern and Indiana. Meanwhile Illinois and Iowa are just a game back, while MSU and Rutgers are a game and a half back.
Michigan finishes the regular season this week with trips to Illinois and Indiana.
