For the first time in 20 years, Michigan football could have three players drafted in the first round.
Defensive back Daxton Hill has joined Aidan Hutchinson and David Ojabo in declaring for the 2022 NFL Draft. The first-time All-Big Ten selection who led Michigan's defense this season in pass breakups (8) and interceptions (2) is the second best safety on Mel Kiper Jr.'s big board.
Hill, a former five-star recruit who also finished second on the team in tackles this season, made his announcement Thursday on Instagram.
"I wouldn't be here, if it wasn't for all of the coaches who have invested in me along with my teammates and friends who have helped me get to this point in my career," he said. "Your encouragement has kept me motivated throughout my time here at Michigan and for that, I am extremely grateful."
Hill wasn't the only Wolverine to declare for the draft on Thursday. So did running back Hassan Haskins, who led the team in rushing and finished fourth in the country in rushing touchdowns, and linebacker Josh Ross, who led the team in tackles. Haskins is the 10th-ranked running back on Kiper's big board; Ross isn't ranked among linebackers.
Their decisions came one day after defensive tackle Chris Hinton and wide receiver Daylen Baldwin also entered the draft. Baldwin, a transfer from Jackson State, caught 17 passes for 256 yards and two touchdowns this season. Hinton, a five star recruit in 2019, posted 32 tackles and one sack.
In all, Michigan has now lost five starters to the draft from a defense that finished 14th in country.
