After three seasons as Michigan basketball's leading scorer and rebounder, Hunter Dickinson is off to Kansas -- where he'll cash in on NIL money. And to those criticizing his decision, Dickinson says, "The people hating on me would leave their job right now for a $10,000 increase. At Michigan, I got less than six figures for the year."
"I knew I was going to get some hate from Michigan people," Dickinson said this week on the Roundball Podcast, "but I feel like I got more hate than — eh, I don’t know, it’s kind of understandable. I knew that a lot of people were going to hate me for my decision. Then again, I feel like I did a lot for the university."
Dickinson had nothing bad to say about his time in Ann Arbor, "because I still do love Michigan, I still love the school, still love the program." He was even considering returning after entering the portal. Given what he accomplished over his three seasons with the Wolverines, he said it "took a lot of courage" to leave.
"I really didn’t want to leave," Dickinson said. "But I just felt like, man, it was the best decision for me. And it took a lot of courage. I feel like people don’t realize how much courage it took for a guy who was there for three years, was an All-American for the team, I did have a legacy there and I basically gave that up to try to be selfish and do what’s best for me in my career, not what’s best for anybody else’s career."
