Michigan DL coach Greg Scruggs resigns after OWI arrest

Two weeks into the job, Michigan defensive line coach Greg Scruggs is done.

Head coach Sherrone Moore announced Thursday that Scruggs has resigned after he was arrested in Ann Arbor last weekend for operating a vehicle while intoxicated. Scruggs, 33, was originally suspended indefinitely following the arrest, which occurred shortly before 3 a.m. last Saturday.

"I just received notice that Greg Scruggs has resigned his position, effective immediately," Moore said in a statement released Thursday. "I am unable to comment further as this is a University matter."

Scruggs was also arrested in 2013 in Washington for allegedly driving under the influence, which he later pleaded down to reckless driving, and was arrested on another DUI charge in 2011 while a player at Louisville.

Scruggs was officially hired by Michigan on March 8 after one season as defensive line coach at Wisconsin. He was a defensive line coach with the Jets the season before that following a five-year playing career in the NFL.
