Michigan flips four-star DL from Stanford on National Signing Day

Michigan football rounded out its 2023 recruiting class with a major win on National Signing Day, flipping California defensive lineman Cameron Brandt from Stanford.

Brandt, a four-star recruit per 247 Sports, originally committed to Stanford in July, while also holding offers from the likes of Oregon, USC and Cal. But he took another visit to Michigan last month and officially chose the Wolverines on Wednesday, confirming his decision with a simple "YESSIR" via Twitter.

Brandt called it "a really hard decision," noting some of the relationships he had already built at Stanford, but said "it came came down to where I thought I fit in the best and where I could see myself at for the next four years."

"When I looked at everything, that was Michigan for me," he said, via 247 Sports. "I think they can mold and develop me in to the best football player I can be."

Brandt added he has "a great relationship with the coaching staff ... and I love the combination of football and academics" that Michigan offers.

"I really like Coach Harbaugh a lot, but it was the whole staff that impressed me," he said. "Everyone was really genuine and kept it real with me the whole time. From a football standpoint, they know what they're doing there and you can tell why they have been so successful."

Brandt's commitment bumps Michigan's 2023 class up to No. 18 in the nation, per 247 Sports. It ranks No. 3 in the Big Ten, behind Ohio State and Penn State.
