Michigan football loses two starters to transfer portal

Michigan football got some surprising news Monday, just a few weeks after its spring game, when starters R.J. Moten and A.J. Henning announced they are entering the transfer portal.

Moten, a senior defensive back, started 10 games last season at safety. He played in all 14 games for the Wolverines, tallying 31 tackles, four passes defended and a safety.

In a statement on Instagram, Moten thanked Michigan's coaching staff and fans for their "constant love and support" and said "with lots of thoughts and prayer, I will entering my name in the transfer portal."

Henning, a senior wide receiver, was Michigan's starting return man the last two seasons, earning All-Big Ten honors each year. He was also Michigan's Special Teams Player of the Year last season when he piled up 442 yards on 39 punt and kick returns.

Henning, who had a limited role on offense, also made his announcement on Instagram, thanking "Coach Harbaugh and his staff for the opportunity to play for this University."

"Being a Michigan Man has taught me things far beyond the football field and I will carry that with me for life," Henning said. "With that being said, I will be entering my name into the transfer portal."
