Michigan flips commits from Clemson, Notre Dame on national signing day

The recruiting boost is real for Michigan. After securing their first Big Ten title and first College Football Playoff berth under Jim Harbaugh, the Wolverines are making waves in the early signing period for 2022.

Michigan has flipped four-star safety and former Clemson commit Keon Sabb, three-star wide receiver and former Notre Dame commit Amorion Walker, and three-star quarterback and former Virginia Tech commit Alex Orji on national signing day.

It also landed four-star offensive tackle Andrew Gentry, the top recruit from the state of Colorado.

Sabb, who re-opened his recruitment after ex-Clemson defensive coordinator Brent Venables took the head coaching job at Oklahoma, becomes the No. 2 defensive player in Michigan's class, according to 247 Sports. The Florida native had offers from just about every national power, including Alabama, Georgia and Ohio State.

Likewise, Walker veered from Notre Dame after former head coach Brian Kelly left for LSU. A Louisiana native, Walker also had offers from the likes of Alabama and LSU. And Orji, a Texas native, chose Michigan on the heels of a coaching change at Virginia Tech. He also has offers from the likes of Oklahoma and Baylor.

Gentry, originally in the class of 2020, was one of the top offensive line recruits in the nation.

With the recent additions, Michigan's 2022 class is ranked No. 9 in the country, according to 247 Sports, trailing only Penn State and Ohio State in the Big Ten.
