A scary scene unfolded during Saturday's Michigan-Indiana game in Bloomington, when running backs coach Mike Hart was carted off the field and taken to a nearby hospital after apparently collapsing on the Wolverines sideline.
Hart, who starred with the Wolverines as a running back in the mid-2000s, was alert while being taken off the field and gave a thumbs up, FOX Sports sideline reporter Jenny Taft reported. The 36-year-old was accompanied by his wife en route to the hospital, Taft added.
The exact nature of the medical episode was unclear. Isaiah Hole, an editor with the USA Today Sports' Wolverines Wire, reported that Hart appeared to be having a seizure.
Players from both teams kneeled and prayed in stunned silence while Hart was being tended to. Hart, who played briefly in the NFL with the Indianapolis Colts, also coached at Indiana from 2017-20.
Michigan players could be seen hugging each other and their coaches when play was resuming.
Hart scored 43 touchdowns and averaged 5.0 yards per carry during his four-year playing career in Ann Arbor. He was a three-time First Team All-Big Ten honoree and team captain, and played three years with the Colts before retiring in 2010.
