As Michigan prepares for its first true test of the season, the Wolverines will head into Happy Valley this weekend still ranked No. 3 in the College Football Playoff rankings.

The top of the CFP rankings remained unchanged as the committee unveiled its second rankings of the season, with Ohio State at No. 1, followed by Georgia, Michigan and Florida State at No. 4.

The first two teams out of the hypothetical playoff field are still No. 5 Washington and No. 6 Oregon.

The Wolverines’ showdown at Penn State this weekend will be of the top-10 variety, as the Nittany Lions jumped to No. 10, following Oklahoma’s loss last weekend. Texas, Alabama and Ole Miss were ranked 7-9th, respectively.

The big game comes in the midst of controversy, as the Michigan program remains under investigation by both the NCAA and the Big Ten for alleged in-person scouting and sign stealing. The conference sent a notice of potential disciplinary action to the school. Michigan has until Wednesday to respond.
