The Michigan Wolverines are heading to the desert.

Fresh off a second straight Big Ten championship, No. 2 Michigan learned Sunday afternoon it is heading back to the College Football Playoff, this time to the Fiesta Bowl in Glendale, Arizona.

Michigan will take on No. 3 TCU on New Year’s Eve – Saturday, Dec. 31 at 4 p.m. It will be the first ever meeting between the Wolverines and Horned Frogs.

No. 3 TCU lost a heartbreaker in the Big 12 title game on Saturday, 31-28 in overtime against Kansas State, but the Horned Frogs didn’t take a hit in the CFP rankings, as No. 4 USC was upset Friday night at the hands of Utah.

The other semifinal matchup features No. 1 Georgia and No. 4 Ohio State in the Peach Bowl in Atlanta. Kickoff in that semifinal is set for 8 p.m.

Many fans were wondering whether this weekend’s upsets would lead to a rematch between Michigan and OSU, but the committee seemed to give the Horned Frogs’ resume the edge over the Buckeyes.

If we’re to see a second edition of “The Game,” it would come with the ultimate stakes on the line – a national championship.

The CFP title game will be played at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles on January 9, 2023.
