Kyrie Irving does not practice in Brooklyn as Nets star remains unvaccinated

The Brooklyn Nets were back in New York City to practice on Tuesday, but they were still missing a key player.

Kyrie Irving was unable to practice with the team as the star point guard continues to remain unvaccinated as the season inches closer.

Due to New York City's local restrictions, players in that market must have at least one vaccination shot in order to play or practice.

"No further update," Nets head coach Steve Nash told reporters on Tuesday. "We support him. We are here for him. Things change. When there's a resolution, we're here for him."

Irving remains unvaccinated and if his status remains that way once the season starts, he will not only be unable to play home games for the Nets, but he will also be docked pay for the games he misses.

It is estimated Irving would lose roughly $380,000 per game if he cannot play in home games, per ESPN's Ohm Youngmisuk.

"I'm not really worried about anything," Nash added. "We're just trying to work every day. We came in today and had a great practice and we'll do the same tomorrow, and that's kind of where I leave it."

Nash also said that the team has not considered moving its practices outside of New York in order for Irving to participate.

"This is our home, this is where we're going to practice and we have almost a whole group," he said. "So that's a positive, and we're just working at getting better every day and focusing on the things we can control."

Golden State Warriors forward Andrew Wiggins also refused to get the vaccine despite San Francisco's similar restrictions as New York up until Sunday. Wiggins has since said he was "forced" to get the shot.
