The fourth quarter of Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals featured the Celtics trying to complete a comeback and nearly succeeding, cutting a 12-point Heat lead to four with 2:31 to go. Unfortunately for them, Jimmy Butler would deliver the dagger with 1:03 to go, rattling home a long three to push Miami’s lead to 10.

And unfortunately for anyone trying to watch on YouTube TV, they missed all of it. According to viewers, the streaming service had been choppy all night, but it finally crashed for good at the final TV timeout with a little under five minutes left in the game.

Some viewers got an error message on their screen for the rest of the game, while others said they were treated to a trailer for the new “The Little Mermaid” movie playing over and over again.

Needless to say, viewers took to the internet and were not thrilled.

YouTube responded to some tweets individually and also tweeted out a statement that read, “if you have an issue watching the Miami Heat vs. Boston Celtics game on TNT, we’re aware of it & our team is working on a fix - thx so much for your patience!”

The problem was not fixed before the end of the game, though. As Ari Meirov and others pointed out, the malfunction is also concerning for NFL viewers given that YouTube TV will be the exclusive home of Sunday Ticket beginning this fall.

Meanwhile, FuboTV continues to not carry TNT and other Turner channels due to a carriage fee dispute with parent company Warner Bros. Discovery, so it was all around not a great night for cord-cutters. Welcome to the age of streaming!
