PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Since the tragic passing of basketball icon — and Lower Merion alum — Kobe Bryant, as well as his daughter Gianna and seven of their friends, Bryant’s legacy has transcended beyond the sports world, and continues to do so.
The Toronto Blue Jays began a series at the Los Angeles Angels — the city Bryant represented during his NBA career — so Blue Jays All-Star Vladimir Guerrero Jr. wore custom-made cleats to honor Kobe and Gianna.
The custom Jordans were hand-painted with Kobe on one cleat and Gigi on the other. Kobe is painted in his Lakers uniform while Gianna sports her Mamba Academy jersey.
Guerrero Jr., who is a huge fan of the late basketball icon, has another pair of custom cleats that are purple — Lakers colors — featuring shared moments between Kobe and Gigi. He plans on giving them to Kobe’s wife, Vanessa, after the Blue Jays-Angels series is over.
