Was this the worst throw of Patrick Mahomes' career? Social media weighs in

Patrick Mahomes has been a human highlight reel for most of his career, so it is very seldom we see him make a bad throw.

That was not the case Thursday night, however.

Mahomes had some curious throws and ball control issues throughout the Chiefs' Thursday Night Football game against the Chargers, but there was one that stood out in particular and it could not have come at a more inopportune time.

The Chiefs were facing a fourth-and-1 from the Chargers 2-yard line and decided to go for it. Mahomes dropped back and looked to hit an open Mecole Hardman to his left at the goal line, but somehow threw the ball several yards short of Hardman.

It resulted as a turnover on downs and had everyone wondering: what in the heck was that throw?

Fox analyst Troy Aikman noted on the replay that Mahomes never gripped the ball by the laces and rushed the throw to Hardman because he saw Chargers cornerback Chris Harris flying toward Hardman.

Without the proper grip on the ball and the need to get it into Hardman's hands before Harris got there resulted in that throw.

At least there's an explanation for it, and it's not a larger question that needs to be answered.
