A Florida alligator is going viral on social media after a video of the creature showed it ripping through a metal fence like it was one of the dinosaurs from ‘Jurassic Park.’
The video was shared by WINK News’ Chief Meteorologist Matt Devitt, who wrote that the spectacle of mother nature took place at a golf course in Placida, Florida.
“Check out this big guy bend the aluminum bars and plow right through it this week in Placida,” Devitt wrote on Facebook. “He eventually got through, according to the viewer who shot the video. Only in Florida!”
The post from Devitt received thousands of comments from those praising the alligator and those finding another reason not to live in Florida.
“Who knew Superman was an alligator,” one user wrote.
Another said they were “much happier dealing with our black bears up here in Tennessee.”
While the fence was made of aluminum and not a stronger metal like iron, as stressed by the weatherman in his post, the feat is still impressive as the alligator seemed to move his way through with little resistance.
Florida is home to millions of alligators, as the state’s Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission estimates 1.3 million call Florida home.
The commission also shared that March to April is often a time when, depending on temperatures, alligators begin their courtship period before the mating season starts from May to June.
Because of the fascination many have with the animals, and their ability to be involved in strange situations, alligator incidents have become common.
Most recently, a Florida man who thought there was a salesman outside his front door wound up going to the hospital after an alligator attacked him when he opened his door.
The incident took place last weekend, and Fox News reported that the man was bitten on his upper thigh by the animal on his front porch after it lunged at him when he went to investigate a noise.
The injuries suffered from the incident were non-life threatening, and authorities were able to capture the alligator and euthanize it.
As for the fence-bending animal, it was not shared what happened following the video, but Florida officials encourage residents to call the Nuisance Alligator Hotline if they require a licensed trapper.
