White Sox trade Erick Fedde and Tommy Pham to Cardinals, Michael Kopech to Dodgers in a 3-team deal, get 3 young infielders in return

(670 The Score) A day before the trade deadline, the White Sox made a splash move on the trade market.

The White Sox on Monday traded right-hander Erick Fedde and outfielder Tommy Pham to the Cardinals as well as reliever Michael Kopech to the Dodgers in a three-team deal that also sent infielder Tommy Edman from St. Louis to Los Angeles. In return, the White Sox received three players from the Dodgers – big league infielder/outfielder Miguel Vargas and two prospects in second baseman Jeral Perez and infielder Alexander Albertus.

In the complicated deal, the White Sox also received a player to be named later or cash considerations from the Dodgers and sent cash considerations to the Cardinals.

Fedde, 31, was a coveted starter on the trade market as he has posted a 3.11 ERA and 1.14 WHIP in 21 starts this season. He’s also under contract control through 2025, and his exit from Chicago is no surprise as the White Sox entered Monday at an MLB-worst 27-81.

Pham, 36, was hitting .266 with five homers, 19 RBIs and a .710 OPS in 70 games for the White Sox this season.

The hard-throwing Kopech, 28, has a 4.74 ERA in 43 appearances in 2024.

Vargas, 24, hit .239 with three homers, nine RBIs and a .735 OPS in 30 games for the Dodgers this season. Vargas has primarily played second base in his three-year MLB career but also has experience in the outfield. He'll immediately be added to the White Sox's 26-man roster.

Perez, 19, was rated as the 17th-best prospect in the Dodgers’ system, according to MLB Pipeline. He’s hitting .264 with 10 homers, 42 RBIs and an .800 OPS in 75 games at Class-A in 2024.

Albertus, 19, was the Dodgers’ 23rd-ranked prospect. He’s hitting .298 with three homers, 42 RBIs and an .828 OPS in 51 games split between rookie ball and Class-A this season.
