Aaron Judge sent panic throughout Yankees Universe on Saturday when he classified his toe ligament injury as a “tear” for the first time, but he still plans on returning this season, though he isn’t able to put any timeline on it.

“That’s obvious, I expect to be back,” Judge told Jon Heyman of the New York Post. “I’m going to do everything I can to put myself in that position.

Aaron Boone wouldn’t make any guarantees that Judge would be back, and while Judge wanted to express more confidence that he would play again in 2023, he also acknowledged the unique nature of his injury, and how it makes it difficult to assess even a ballpark estimate of when he could make a return to a Yankee lineup that desperately needs him.

“I can’t make any promises,” Judge told Heyman. “I wish I had an answer. I just feel bad. You guys are looking for answers. That’s your job. You’re reporting. I’ve got no answers. I’m trying to figure stuff out and get through this thing.”
