San Diego's high school athletes are receiving some good news, as San Diego Section Commissioner Joe Heinz announced that the plan is to move forward with the fall schedule as planned as of right now according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.  Football practice is scheduled to begin on July 30th, followed by many other sports, including volleyball, cross country and golf, beginning on August 1st.
From the UT:
  • “We’re planning on moving forward,” new San Diego Section Commissioner Joe Heinz said after three marathon days of Zoom meetings with the state’s other nine section commissioners to discuss the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. “The plan is for the whole state to start on time.”
  • It’s still possible all that could change. In a statement, the State CIF said it will meet again with the section commissioners by July 20 and determine if it’s safe to continue as scheduled. If not, alternative calendars will be offered.

With all of the uncertainty around fall sports, this should be welcome news for San Diego's high school athletes!
