Coach John Kentera’s Weekly Quick Hits
It’s very easy to sit back and be critical of anything that is just getting started, and we all tend to see the negative rather than the positive. When evaluating the first weekend of the new Alliance of American Football, I had to take into consideration that these teams have really only been together about 6 weeks. I have to say that I really enjoyed the two games that I watched, and will look forward to the remainder of the 10 week season and the playoffs. This brand of football is going to be wide open and the offenses will get better week by week, and every team is pretty well stacked with skill players. The challenge for most of the teams will be to develop a cohesive offensive line, and that’s definitely what has to come together for the San Diego Fleet. The coverage on CBS was excellent, and it was evident that veteran play by play announcer Spero Dedes did his homework, as did all the announcers on the broadcast. I watched the Salt Lake - Arizona game on the NFL Network, and I really enjoyed all of the information that they put out. Not only on the game they were covering, but the other games around the Alliance. I really hope this league is successful for several different reasons. It certainly gives overlooked and undervalued players an opportunity to develop and see if they have what it takes to play in the NFL. One of the best things I have seen about the AAF is that the coaches have incredible experience and can really teach all the players the way they do it in the NFL. It’s too early to tell if this league will make it long term after just one week, but they are off to a great start.
