
We are blessed with some of the greatest Mexican food around here in San Diego, so nevermind the fact that it’s National Burrito Day today (April 4th), we celebrate a great burrito whenever!
Really, what more could you ask for? Brightly pink walls, donned with lucha libre wrestling memorabilia and there’s always a luchador movie playing. Oh, and did we mention the burritos are EPIC?! Pro tip: call ahead to reserve the champions booth if you’re going to dine-in.
Without a good tortilla, what even is a burrito? Roberto’s was founded in 1964 when Roberto and his wife decided at the urging of customers to make their own burritos from the tortillas produced at their tortilla factory. Their family still runs the restaurants, and they stick to the basics that they do well.
A staple of Chula Vista since 1984, now with 6 locations and they make a mean California burrito, but we won’t fault you if you go for their carne asada fries.
If you like a good wet burrito, this is your spot. You can get any of their burritos “wet”, topped with their enchilada sauce.
So many choices! If you like seafood, they’ve got the basic fish and shrimp burritos, but you can also get scallop, calamari, or lobster burritos. They’ve also a lot of choices for vegetarians!
There are a lot of choices here, but you can’t go wrong with their Surf & Turf burrito.
You won’t leave hungry from the self-proclaimed Home of the Surf & Turf – which comes with shrimp, carne asada, rice, guac, and it’s DOUBLE WRAPPED with 2 tortillas. Not feeling surf & turf? They’ve got options for everyone. The Mariachi burrito is a beans/rice/cheese burrito with jalapeno poppers. Yes please.
