The Cowboys had a disappointing end to last season that left them with the 26th overall pick in the upcoming NFL Draft. However, despite the later pick in the first round, that doesn’t mean that Dallas will have slim pickings at 26.
NFL Insider Brian Baldinger was a guest on the Audacy Original Podcast “Love of the Star” and identified a few different players that the Cowboys could have their eye on with the 26th pick.
“You have Dalton Kincaid or Michael Mayer. If one of those tight ends are there, it looks like a position of need,” Baldinger said. “Dalton (Schultz) was a good player, second-leading receiver, red zone, all that stuff. When you looked last year at what they had, Peyton Hendershot, those guys were good players but if I could get Kincaid at 26, that’s a good fit.”
Schultz evolved into a key part of the Cowboys’ offense during his six years in Dallas. He was behind only CeeDee Lamb with 577 receiving yards in 2022 after putting up 808 yards with a career-high eight touchdowns in 2021. The tight-end position is evolving and Kincaid or Mayer could be a good replacement for Schultz.
On the other hand, the Cowboys could look to shore up their offensive line even further after selecting Tyler Smith with the 24th pick last year.
One player Baldinger mentioned is O’Cyrus Torrence out of Florida.
“If O’Cyrus Torrence was there, look, I think that Tyler Smith’s a great pick last year. I love him. I loved him coming out. I loved the way he played. I think there’s a bright future for him. But you really have to look at what Tyler is right now. Can he hold up? He held up when he came in there last year and he played right tackle, he was fine,” he said. “If you could go get yourself a guard like Torrence right now, I don’t think you’d be wasting a pick by any means.”
The Cowboys will have a bevy of options available to them on NFL Draft night in two weeks. Keep an eye on Kincaid, Mayer, and Torrence as draft day moves closer.
