DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Friday that the Cowboys are "likely" to release receiver Amari Cooper by the start of the new year league on March 16, four days before he's due to earn $20 million in fully guaranteed money for the 2022 season.

The only problem is... that's not new information.

The Cowboys have been "likely" to release Cooper for weeks now. As a matter of fact, 105.3 The Fan's Bobby Belt was the first to bring up the idea that cutting Cooper was something the organization would have to consider.

“I feel like Amari Cooper’s gone,” Belt said on the 105.3 The Fan on Jan. 18. “That’s just a sense I get; nobody’s told me that.”

While not being an official report at the time, Belt's comments caught a lot of flack in DFW, so the Cowboys' insider expounded on those comments the next day on The Fan.

"First off, I wasn't reporting anything. ... I'm certain Amari Cooper's $22 million cap figure is something that they're evaluating if they want to carry that into next year. Whether that be they trade him, they release him, they restructure him, which they have not been willing to do to this point. I don't see him carrying that exact figure into next season," Belt said. ... "The part where I was just more projecting, was I think that this ultimately ends up (with them deciding to) handle that cap figure (by moving on)."

Then there is this official report on Feb 5. and another one on Feb. 28: "Multiple sources have told 105.3 The Fan in recent weeks that both Cooper and DeMarcus Lawrence are potential salary-cap casualties this offseason."

Fast forward a week… and everyone is "breaking news" that the Cowboys are likely to part ways with Cooper.
