Could Dak Prescott’s path back to the lineup come by way of being Cooper Rush’s backup Sunday?
Stephen Jones won’t confirm or deny that.
Prescott continues to recover from surgery on his right thumb, which he fractured in Week 1. Rush has done a fine job in Prescott’s stead, leading the Cowboys to four straight wins as they roll into Philadelphia to face the undefeated Eagles on Sunday night.
For a while, Sunday’s game against the Eagles felt like a possibility for Prescott to make his return. He was listed as questionable after Friday's practice, and Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones was asked on “The GBag Nation” if backing up was a possibility.
“Well, as we make those final decisions, we’ll certainly make that known," Jones said. "But right now we haven’t made any final decisions.”
Not a yes, but also not a no.
That is in line with what Mike McCarthy had said earlier in the day after practice when asked the same question.
“We’ve thrown on air,” McCarthy said, via ESPN’s Todd Archer. “We haven’t thrown in a competitive drill so that’s one of the next hurdles. Hopefully we will potentially get over that (Saturday).”
If nothing else, the fact that such a discussion seems to be on the table suggest that Prescott is getting close.
That said, it would make great theater if Rush plays well in a huge game against the Eagles with Prescott in full pads on the sideline.
