Though "Sports Jeopardy!" was short-lived, it was a breath of fresh air for sports fans who wanted their trivia fix. And it was also probably a breath of fresh air for contestants on the normal "Jeopardy!" show, seeing as their knowledge of Shakespearean literary devices, 19th century French history, nine-letter words and other categories tends to be stronger than what they know about the wide world of sports.

And though this isn't true of all contestants -- record-setter James Holzhauer was well-versed in all things sports -- Thursday night's episode served as a perfect reminder that the show's extremely intelligent participants often fall short when it gets to things as seemingly simple as our national pastime.

A category entitled "Yankee Stadium" gave contestants Mason, Preston and Phillip a real hard time.

At least they got the first one right. Seriously... not knowing Babe Ruth would be like not knowing Jackie Robinson.

Okay, well... you get the point. If you're not a huge baseball fan, I guess it shouldn't be all too shocking not to have heard of Aaron Judge. But Mickey Mantle? Yogi Berra? Come on. Those guys are as deeply embedded into the threads of American culture as any other celebrities.

But I digress. Any time there's a sports category on "Jeopardy!" there's a real chance for some hilarious answers. A few of my personal favorite sports-related moments on the show are as follows:

- When a clue mentioned a player who had recorded 11 of the 13 seasons of 100+ assists in NHL history, contestant Joe got his sports mixed up and answered, "Who is Magic Johnson?"
- Alex Trebek ended a five-question nightmare in a football category with a resounding, "If you guys ring in and get this one, I will die," in reference to the $1,000 clue. Fortunately, they didn't buzz in, and Trebek is still with us.

- An all-time hilarious answer came in response to a clue that asked for Joel Embiid's well-known nickname,

Embiid's response was perfect.
