Falcons' Matt Ryan tops Drew Brees for impressive passing mark

Matt Ryan reached an impressive career milestone on Sunday.

The Atlanta Falcons quarterback moved ahead of Drew Brees with the most career passing yards by a player in his first 14 seasons in the NFL.

Ryan entered the day 103 yards behind Breess’ mark of 56,033, which the Falcons quarterback surpassed in the first half against the Tampa Bay Bucs, throwing for 151 yards at the half, although were trailing 21-10.

While Ryan passed Brees through the 14-season mark, the New Orleans Saints legend still ranks No. 2 on the all-time passing yards list after putting together some of the best seasons of his career after year 14, including leading the NFL in passing yards at age 36 and 37, the latter tossing 5,208 yards.

That could be a tall order for Matt Ryan, who sits ninth on the all time passing yards list behind Eli Manning at age 36.

The Falcons quarterback, whose future in Atlanta remains uncertain, would likely need to continue to play into his 40s to catch Brees on the all-time list.

While Ryan has never led the league in passing yards, he has remained one of the most consistent quarterbacks in the NFL.
