Alex Ovechkin vs. Andrei Svechnikov NHL Playoffs Fight: Video, Radio Call

By Audacy

WASHINGTON (106.7 The Fan) -- If Alex Ovechkin never pursued hockey, he'd have made a pretty good boxer.

That's exactly what the Washington Capitals superstar proved Monday night when young Carolina Hurricanes forward and fellow Russian Andrei Svechnikov bumped him one too many times during Game 3 of their first-round playoff series.

Ovechkin KO'd his countryman in just a few swift blows. While Svechnikov headed to the locker room for treatment, Ovechkin skated to the penalty box to serve his five-minute major penalty.

Though Ovechkin showed he can more than hold his own when the gloves are dropped, it's something he hadn't done in nearly a decade.

Svechnikov did not return to the game and is being evaluated for a concussion.

The Capitals won the fight, but they lost the game, 5-0. It was the first time the Caps had been shut out in a playoff game since May 10, 2017. The Capitals lead the series, 2-1.
