Parkins on Chiefs' offside penalty: 'I feel cheated by Kadarius Toney, not by the refs'

The offside penalty heard around the world took a Kansas City Chiefs touchdown off the board on a crucial play late in the fourth quarter against the Buffalo Bills. Wide receiver Kadarius Toney lined up offside before scoring on a lateral pass from Travis Kelce.

The Bills went on to win the game 20-17 and the Chiefs were left with a sour taste in their mouths.

Danny Parkins and Andrew Fillipponi of the Audacy original podcast “1st & Pod” discussed the controversial offside call and questioned where the Kansas City Chiefs’ accountability is.

“When I tweeted ‘We were robbed of it,’ I meant by Kadarius Toney,” Parkins said (11:10 in player above). “I do feel cheated.

Of course, the Chiefs made some mistakes earlier in the game that could’ve swayed things, Parkins noted, but the offside call on Toney was a game-changing play.

“I do wish we lived in a world where that play happened and we get to see if Josh Allen can drive back down the field at Arrowhead,” Parkins continued. “I do feel cheated as a football fan but by Kadarius Toney, not by the refs.”

While the Chiefs were busy complaining about the offside call, there was no accountability in the Kansas City locker room.

“Where’s the personal accountability?” Fillipponi asked. “I did not see every quote that came out of their locker room or from Andy Reid but did anybody want to put it back on the player because I did not get that impression in the stuff that I saw going around social media.”

“I saw Jerick McKinnon be like ‘the refs had it in for us today,’” Parkins interjected.

“F off. Get out of here with this,” Fillipponi continued. “Toney’s kind of a clown, and look, you don’t want to air the guy out, but maybe he stands at his locker and says I should’ve just lined up properly which is something that, as a professional football player, I should do 100 times out of 100.”

Fillipponi wondered if the Chiefs are getting a little bit unhinged as they dropped to 8-5 on the season, but it may just be understandable frustration.

“I think that it’s frustration boiling over,” Parkins said. “But I don’t know that that’s unhinged. I think it’s understandable palpable frustration.”

The Chiefs are now in danger of missing out on a bye in the playoffs after being a perennial top seed in previous years.
