San Diego FC goalkeeper CJ Dos Santos returned to MLS action with plenty of confidence after an unforgettable summer representing Cabo Verde at the World Cup.
Dos Santos described the experience of representing his country on soccer's biggest stage as an "absolute blessing" and an honor. Cabo Verde made an impression at the tournament, including earning a result against powerhouse Spain, giving Dos Santos and his teammates a memorable experience.
Now back with San Diego FC, Dos Santos believes the club has used the break as an opportunity to reset and prepare for a strong finish to the MLS season.
San Diego FC also gained valuable confidence during Leagues Cup play, finishing 2-1 while facing strong competition and difficult environments. Dos Santos said those matches showed the team it can compete against quality opponents and gave the club additional confidence heading back into MLS play.
One of the newest additions to the club, Elias Achouri, has already made an impression on Dos Santos. The goalkeeper praised Achouri's ability to create opportunities through his one-on-one ability and vertical attacking style, while also pointing to his positive impact inside the locker room.
Dos Santos has also been impressed by the young players stepping into larger roles throughout the season. He said the team's willingness to support players when their opportunities arrive is a sign of a strong locker room.
With San Diego FC entering an important stretch of the season, Dos Santos believes the club has the talent and confidence to make a run up the table — but it will take maximum focus every day to make it happen.
