San Diego FC lost to Toluca 4-0 in the second leg of their match against Toluca in the Concacaf Confederations Cup on Wednesday night. After defeating the Mexican Club 3-2 in the first leg, SDFC would have been able to advance with a win or even a draw due to goal differential in the two matches, but winning on the road at altitude in Mexico City proved to be a tall order. Neither team scored in the first 42 minutes, but just before the half, Toluca scored off of a mistake by SDFC goalie Duran Ferree, whose errant pass inside the box was stolen and led directly to a goal. Ultimately, the mistake didn't matter, as Toluca scored twice shortly after half time in the 56th and 59th minutes, and again during stoppage time to earn a 4-0 win and advance in the Concacaf Confederations Cup. SDFC's next MLS match will be at home against Real Salt Lake on Sunday at 4:00.
