The Padres dropped the final two games of their 3-game series against the Dodgers, losing on Sunday 9-4. Mike Clevinger allowed 5 earned runs in just 3.1 innings pitched. The Padres trailed 5-1 heading into the 7th inning, when they scored 3 runs thanks to two-out run-scoring doubles by Jurickson Profar and Jake Cronenwoth. After Matt Beaty was hit by a pitch, Trent Grisham came to the plate with the Padres trailing by just a run and two base runners aboard. But a horrible called strike 3 by the home plate umpire that was several inches inside ended the Padres threat, and drew the ire of Grisham and Bob Melvin. That proved to be the turning point in the game, as the Dodgers tacked on 4 insurance runs in the bottom half of the 7th, including a pinch-hit 3-run homer by former Padre Trayce Thompson. The Padres will now return home and begin a 3-game series against the Diamondbacks on Monday.
