The Padres improved upon their franchise best start to the season with a 7-0 victory over the Guardians to improve to 6-0. Michael King tossed a gem, striking out 11 over 5 scoreless innings while allowing just 2 hits and a walk. The Padres offense pulled their own weight as well, delivering 10 hits of their own. It was a scoreless game entering the 4th inning, when Jackson Merrill broke the scoreless tie with a solo home run off lefty Logan Allen. The Padres scored two more runs in the 5th inning by playing small ball. The Friars added 3 insurance runs in the 7th and 8th innings via 2 fielder's choices and a throwing error to blow the game wide open. The Padres will go for their second consecutive sweep to begin the season on Wednesday with Dylan Cease on the mound.
