The Padres snapped their 5 game losing streak on Monday night, beating the Royals 4-0. Michael Wacha was magnificent, striking out a career-high 11 batters while carrying a no-hitter into the 8th inning. Wacha came back out to start the 8th inning, but allowed a single to the first batter he faced, Michael Massey, and was then lifted for Nick Martinez, who pitched 2 scoreless innings to finish out the game. Manny Machado exited the game in the 4th inning after being hit by a pitch in the hand. X-rays after the game were negative for a fracture.

The Padres were able to knock Royals starter Brad Keller out early, as he was erratic and struggled to throw strikes. Keller allowed 3 hits and issued 8 walks in just 3.2 innings pitched. The Padres were able to get a couple of hits with runners in scoring position as well, going 2-9 on the night, which has been an area they have struggled in this season.
