The Padres defeated the Royals 3-2 on Sunday afternoon, winning 2 of 3 games and their first series since taking 2 of 3 from the Brewers in early June. Randy Vasquez was terrific, providing much needed length, allowing just 2 earned runs in 7 innings of work. Vasquez's lone mistake came on a 2-run homer by Salvador Perez in the 6th inning to break up the 0-0 game. But this was Jose Iglesias's day, as he hit a 2-run single to tie the game in the bottom of the 7th inning, and then hit a grounder to shortstop in the bottom of the 9th inning, that allowed Luis Arraez to score the game-winning run from third base on a close play at the plate. The Padres will welcome the Nationals to Petco Park beginning on Monday evening.
