The Padres beat the Rockies 8-0 on Friday night, getting a dominant effort on the mound from Nick Pivetta and an offensive outburst from their bats as well. Word came out earlier in the day that Jake Cronenworth would be placed on the IL with a fractured rib, but Fernando Tatis Jr. would return to the lineup after missing Wednesday's game due to tweaking his surgically repaired shoulder. Tatis made his presence felt, going 2-4 with a solo home run and a stolen base that allowed Elias Diaz to score from 3rd base on a throwing error. Jose Iglesias went 2-4 with 2 RBIs in place of the injured Cronenworth, and Gavin Sheets blasted a solo home run as well.
Nick Pivetta rebounded nicely from his poor outing in Chicago, tossing 7 shutout frames and striking out 10 on just 88 pitches. The bullpen continued to baffle opposing offense, with Yuki Matsui and Alek Jacob combining for the final two scoreless innings. Kyle Hart is slated to face Chase Dollander in Saturday's matchup.
