According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, the Padres are hiring former Nationals manager Matt Williams to serve as the team's third base/infield coach. Williams served as new Padres manager Bob Melvin's third base coach with the A's from 2018-2019. Williams had a long Major League career as a player for the Giants, Indians and Diamondbacks, before entering the coaching ranks.
As a player, Williams made 5 All-Star teams, and won 4 Gold Gloves and 4 Silver Sluggers. He also won the 2001 World Series with the Diamondbacks. Williams managed Washington from 2014-2015, winning NL Manager of the Year in 2014.
