Following the news that Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach Bruce Arians stepping down as head coach for a lesser role in the front office, all eyes immediately went on Tom Brady, who many believe is the reason Arians is even retiring in the first place.
Despite the widespread speculation that he may be responsible for forcing Arians out, the seven-time Super Bowl champ took to Instagram late Wednesday night to show gratitude for his former coach, calling it a privilege to play for Arians, "a true NFL legend."
Here is what Brady had to say in his post late Wednesday night:
“Thank you, BA for all that you have done for me and our team,” Brady wrote. “You are an incredible man and coach, and it was a privilege to play for you. You are a true NFL legend and pioneer for all the work you have done to make the league more diverse and inclusive.
“Smart, tough and loyal are a few of the words to describe your style. I will always remember the conversations we had when you recruited me two years ago and all of the things we discussed came true. We all benefitted from your leadership and guidance and I’m so proud of everything we accomplished. You were a huge part of the decision to join the Bucs and I’m forever grateful.
“I’m so happy you will spend the much-deserved time with your loving and supportive family that has given so much to our communities. Congratulations on an amazing coaching career but more importantly, how you positively impacted me and everyone else in the game of football.”
The 69-year-old coach decided to retire from coaching after more than 40 years on NFL and college sidelines, handing the reigns over to defensive coordinator Todd Bowles.
Bowles of course is no stranger to commanding a franchise in the NFL, leading the New York Jets for four seasons, compiling a less than stellar record of 24-40. Things may be different this time-- that's if Brady stays in Tampa.
During their two seasons together, Arians and Brady won a Super Bowl ring in 2021 and led the Buccaneers to a 24—9 record. In his new role with the team, Arians will be serving as "senior football consultant" which will begin with helping the Bucs prep for the 2022 NFL Draft.
“Succession has always been huge for me,” Arians said in a phone interview with NBC Sports and The Los Angeles Times. “With the organization in probably the best shape it’s been in its history, with Tom Brady coming back … I’d rather see Todd in position to be successful and not have to take some [crappy] job."
