Yes, after first being announced by Billboard last April, Netflix has just remind us all that they have a three-part Yeezy documentary series in the chamber. Tempting us what to expect by releasing a first look clip that features Ye and Mos Def circa 2002. As both free-style their verses to what would become “Two Words,” off of West’s seminal debut album The College Dropout.
Lyrics aside, Kanye’s emotional delivery alone speaks to his eagerness to prove himself, and the passion that would later come to define him as one of the most controversial figures in music.
So, bag your place on the coach and make sure you have all the snacks, because Kanye is headed to Netflix, and here’s everything we know about.
Oh, but first let’s take a moment and give the cleverly genius jeen-yuhs doc title the proper respect it deserves.
Okay so —
Who’s helming the project?
Surprisingly, West is not involved creatively. Clarence ‘Coodie’ Simmons and Chike Ozah, the filmmakers behind some of Wests's early music videos like “Through the Wire” and “Jesus Walks,” will be directing the project. Which at one point was speculated to have a budget of $30 million, though that number was later disputed so 🤷.
When will it premiere?
According to a statement from Netflix, JEEN-YUHS is set to premiere in 2022.
And finally —
What is it about?
Featuring never-seen-before footage, the series will focus on his music career, his fashion business, his failed presidential run and the death of his mother, Donda West.
With it being Kanye and all, we’re betting there won’t be a dull moment throughout. Also, we wonder whether the Taylor Swift dramz will be mentioned or not. Guess we'll just have to wait and see.
