Looks like LISA made her dream collab wish come true. While talking about her already stacked up and impressive list of collaborators like Ryan Tedder, Max Martin, and Rosalía during an Audacy Check In with Mike Adam back in October, LISA revealed she has a wish list of “a lot” more rockstars she’d love to work with, but at the top of that list is Doja Cat.
Now, as to whether or not she already knew she’d be delivering “Born Again” when she shared that, well, that’s none of our business. But by speaking it into existence, she not only manifested a feature from Doja, but also added RAYE into the mix as well.
LISA first teased the collab in late January, sharing a glamorous group photo of the trio. Then, earlier this week, she dropped the single's old-timey cover art.
A breakup empowerment song, musically “Born Again” is giving Disco vibes, while lyrically its giving — "good riddance, I can do better." As the trio detail just how much their ex has lost by giving up on their relationship, all to a dancey beat.
“If you tried just a little more times / I would’ve made you a believer / Would’ve showed you what it’s like (Like) / Every single night / To be born again, baby,” LISA and RAYE sing on the chorus.
“I hope you learned somethin' from a lil' fiasco / You played the game smart lettin' lil' me pass go,” Doja rapped on her turn, before LISA and RAYE swooped back in with another repetition of the chorus.
Another contrasting tone comes from the cryptically symbolic Bardia Zeinali-driected visual, which opens with a chiming ornate grandfather clock, followed by the definition of the song’s title: “The transformation into a New Woman who embraces her freedom to become the person she desires to be.”
Broken up into 5 parts, that just like what has become a key emblem in the campaign of her upcoming album, represents the five points on a star. Starting off dressed in all black LISA, Doja, and RAYE, eventually shed their dark layers and emerge in ethereal white ensembles, adorned with pieces of silver armor.
“Born Again” follows LISA’s 2024 release run of three singles, beginning with “Rockstar,” then “New Woman” with Rosalía, and “Moonlit Floor (Kiss Me).” All of which will appear on LISA’s forthcoming album, Alter Ego, set to arrive on February 28.
