Not satisfied with simply providing blistering soundtracks, the Green Day guys are currently developing a new music/comedy flick with The Office’s Angela Kinsey and Jenna Fischer.

Called New Years Rev, the Green Day and Office Ladies collab is inspired by the Bay Area punk band’s early touring days riding around the country in a sprinter van. As the story goes, three best buds, played by Mason Thames, Kylr Coffman, and Ryan Foust, hit the road on a “rowdy, mischievous” adventure to Los Angeles under the mistaken belief they’ve been booked to open for Green Day at a New Year’s concert.
The Office’s Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey, who also helm their Office Ladies podcast on Audacy, will co-star in the upcoming film, also featuring Ignacio Diaz-Silverio and Keen Ruffalo. Fischer’s husband, Lee Kirk, has been tapped to help write and direct, while Green Day members Billy Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt, and Tre Cool will serve as producers along with Live Nation Productions, whose projects include the Oscar-winning A Star Is Born, Moonage Daydream, and more.
“Van days rule,” Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong said in a statement. “You will drive all night on no sleep then play a show for 10 kids in a basement of a friend of a friend’s house 50 miles east of anywhere you’ve ever heard of. But you’ll do it again the next day, and the one after that. Because you’re doing it with your bandmates who become your family and it’s unlike anything you’ve ever known. It’s electric. Let the music and mischief ensue.”
“Brought to life by an incredible cast, it’s a tribute to the magic of live music," said Ryan Kroft, Live Nation Productions’ head of film and TV. "With incredible guidance from Green Day, ‘New Years Rev’ tells the story of young artists chasing a dream — long nights, endless miles, and the electrifying rush of the stage fueling their journey,”
Production of the upcoming flick is currently underway in Oklahoma.
