The very, very, very good boy, obviously named after Country star Toby Keith, was reportedly born on January 9, 2001, giving him some major "How Do You Like Me Now?" bragging rights at 21 years, 66 days old on March 16 when Guinness dropped by to give him some treats.
"People can’t believe how good he looks for his age," his person, Gisela Shore, says. She adopted her little red solo cup of a pup from a shelter after an elderly couple surrendered him as a puppy after they could no longer manage to care for him. "They had named him Peanut Butter. I later changed his name to TobyKeith," Gisela tells Guinness.
His longevity is attributed to a good diet, healthy walks, and a loving home shared by a number of other animals adopted by Gisela. Going by Guinness' records, TobyKeith (the chihuahua, not the singer) is well on his way to reaching another major milestone, 'oldest dog ever,' currently held by an Australian cattle-dog named Bluey, who lived to be 29 years, 5 months old.
