Anastasia and Drizella as the evil stepsisters from "Cinderella" and now Disney is developing a live-action musical comedy based on them.
Kristen Wiig and Annie Mumolo, who previously co-wrote "Bridesmaids" and "Barb and Star Go To Vista Del Mar," will write the script for the film that recounts the fairytale from the sisters' perspective, according to Variety.
Wiig and Mumolo, who also co-starred in "Barb & Star," aren't expected to appear in the musical comedy, which is in the early stages of development.
Also on board as a producer is Wiig's fellow "Saturday Night Live" alum, Will Ferrell.
This is the latest in the line of films centering on Disney villains such as "Maleficent" and the upcoming "Cruella." There's no release date set or official title for the evil stepsisters film.
Wiig and Mumolo met while performing in The Groundlings comedy group nearly 20 years ago and enjoyed success teaming up on the 2011 blockbuster "Bridesmaids."
The pic, which starred Wiig, Maya Rudolph, Rose Byrne and Melissa McCarthy, made more than $300 million at the box office and scored Wiig and Mumolo an Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay.
"Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar" was scheduled to premiere in theaters on July 31, 2020, but had its released pushed back due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It was eventually released on VOD on February 12th, 2021.
