A Guy Who Bought Up Hand Sanitizer to Try to Price Gouge People Is Now Stuck with 17,700 Unsold Bottles

Life-or-death situations can bring out the best in people and also the worst. And people who look at crises as an opportunity for price gouging definitely fall into the "worst" category. So there's something very karmic about seeing a person get absolutely screwed while trying to profiteer off a crisis. There's a guy named Matt Colvin in Hixson, Tennessee. And when he saw coronavirus causing panics overseas last month, he quickly drove around and bought up more than 18,000 bottles of hand sanitizer. Then he tried to sell them for up to $70 each on Amazon. Well, after he sold about 300 bottles, Amazon noticed his extremely high markups. And it turns out those violated their seller policy against, quote, "pricing practices that harm customer trust." So they kicked him off their site and now he's stuck with 17,700 bottles of hand sanitizer. Suddenly, he's found a conscience after all this and he says he's, quote, "exploring ways to donate all the supplies."
