For many Las Vegas visitors, self-serve casino buffets are as central to the experience as poker chips, showgirls and slot machines. But earlier this week, MGM Resorts International announced that it would temporarily be closing down the buffets at seven of its properties along the Strip to help stop the spread of coronavirus. (Those properties are ARIA, Bellagio, MGM Grand, Mandalay Bay, the Mirage, Luxor, and Excalibur.) The campus buffets are also shutting down at the University of California-San Francisco's teaching hospital, with food director Dan Henroid telling The Washington Post that his goals are to reduce the number of shared surfaces and to move customers through quickly rather than having them congregate.
