In a recent TV interview, Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek revealed that he won't have a say in picking his successor once he leaves the show, but didn't say why. Trebek has been battling stage 4 pancreatic cancer, and is 79-years-old, so it's likely that he may have to retire from the show, perhaps soon. In the interview, Trebek said “Don’t ask me who’s going to replace me, because I have no say in that whatsoever.” So TV Land decided to find out, and asked him directly at a recent Q&A following the Greatest of All Time tournament. “It’s not a decision that would be up to me. And I would not make myself available to presenting an opinion,” Trebek explained, adding, " I would leave it up to the people in charge.” Jeopardy! producer Harry Friedman told the outlet, “[Alex] really has no interest in being involved in that process. We would welcome his opinion, obviously, but he feels like it’s really not up to him. And he has said that for a long time.”
