Summer is already starting to suck after New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio announced that the city's outdoor pools won't open in 2020--and beaches could be next. “Lower expectations, just for everyone’s sanity,” de Blasio said the prospect of the opening public beaches for the summer. “The notion of having lifeguards--and people coming to the beach like normal--we don’t have that in our sights yet." It seems the decision to shutter the pools is due to finances as well as health: The New York Daily News reports that the pool closures will save the city $12 million.
