Ben Affleck has taken a lot from watching partner Jennifer Lopez and her fans.
In conversation with Micheal B. Jordan for Variety, the two broached a number of topics including how they’ve traversed Hollywood in their careers and being big time film directors and actors.
As the pair chatted, Affleck brought up his 2023 directorial effort, “Air,” and said before it was released he was told how the movie wouldn’t “just be about a basketball player [Michael Jordan], but about an icon who gave a whole generation of young Black kids the freedom to reach and soar to greater heights.”
Affleck said he took that “responsibility very seriously,” and asked Michael B. Jordan how he felt about it.
“Once you know that that’s a responsibility you have, you do approach your work with that extra added layer to it: ‘All right, how can I help influence the next generation? How can I be an example for them? How can I walk and live it every day?’” Jordan answered.
Affleck called Jordan’s response “beautiful.” He then went on saying how he finds his job difficult, but not close to what Jordan and his wife Jennifer Lopez go through.
"I see it with my wife. People see me, they go, 'I like that movie. You're an actor.' But when they approach her, it's like, 'You mean something. I haven't seen somebody like me, or from where I'm from, doing what you do.' That's not a part of my experience. It's beautiful the way you convey it,” he said.
In 2023 Ben Affleck directed “Air,” and Michael B. Jordan helmed “Creed III.”
