Chesney has had the song “Carry On” in his back pocket for a few years, but while working on new music, it found a new direction and tempo, with the same strong message. “The first time I heard ‘Carry On’ I knew it was right for me because I have always been drawn to ‘barroom wisdom’ if you will, and this was an island bar, it was about somebody who had lived a lot of life that was pouring drinks, and I love the idea of that,” shares Kenny. “I've met a lot of those characters over the years. I've had a lot of those people in my life.”
“It reminded me that we all have stuff in our life, and I think that I've been guilty in my life of making things harder than it has to be, and I think sometimes, not all the times but sometimes, it is as simple as doing things that make you feel good and realizing how simple the reset button can be.”
The song is set to slide nicely into the already uplifting live show from Chesney, and the Country Music Hall of Famer knew it as he recorded it in the studio. “When I'm in the process of writing songs or listening to songs, if it makes me feel good, I think that it's possible it's gonna make other people feel good,” Kenny reveals. “I've had a lot of these type songs in my shows over the years. I kind of think about what it's like to be up on stage with an audience in front of me and I think ‘Carry On’ is gonna fit right in line with a lot of those type songs that I do live every night.
